Harvard makes the cut: 'Little Women' coming to town

After weeks of uncertainty, with movie location scouts checking out places in town and sightings of director Greta Gerwig having lunch at the General Store, it’s actually happening: Harvard has made the cut, and Columbia Pictures will film scenes for the upcoming movie “Little Women” in the town center.

Caucus nominates two for Select Board seat

At 7 p.m., when the gavel should have come down at Town Caucus on Sept. 17, many of the 18 caucus participants were on their cell phones calling friends and relatives, asking them to come to Town Hall to help the caucus reach the required quorum of 25 voters.

Select Board interviews prospective cannabis businesses

The Select Board met this week with representatives of Coil Brothers Concentrates and Trichome Health, two cannabis businesses seeking to locate in Harvard. At the Sept. 18 meeting, each of the four board members questioned each company’s representatives about their business models and impact on the town but no official decision was made.

Septic tank removal at HES will require DEP and Sewer Commission approval

The Sewer Commission notified the School Building Committee this week that in order to remove the Hildreth Elementary School’s septic tank when construction begins on the new school, the committee will have to get approval from both the Sewer Commission and the state Department of Environmental Protection.

Harvard Fire Department sends engine and crew to assist Lawrence emergency responders

The Harvard Fire Department sent an engine and five firefighters to assist the city of Lawrence in response to a series of gas explosions that ripped through buildings in that area, Sept 13.

The Planning Board has begun work on a new erosion control bylaw and expects to have the new proposal ready for the spring 2019 Annual Town Meeting, according to discussion at its Sept. 17 meeting.
