The Bromfield boys varsity soccer team defeated Oakmont 6-1 in its second game of the season Tuesday, Sept. 4, at home at McCurdy Track. Bromfield also won 6-0 against Clinton Friday, Sept. 7, at home.
The captains of the team this year are seniors Charlie Pappas, Patrick Flanagan, and Charlie Bardenheuer.
Against Clinton, Pappas scored four times. Nolan Granville and Ryan Glazier each scored once. Dante Suarez scored Oakmont’s single goal.
“We have a lot of talent on this year’s team,” head Coach Alex Horne stated. Horne’s two objectives for the team are progress and cohesiveness. “Every day we want to progress from the previous day, we want to live that throughout the season. Every game we want to play better than the last game, and the biggest thing is team cohesiveness.” Horne wants the team members to play collaboratively and be in tune with one another while on the field.
On Friday, senior Jake Catalina notched the first two goals of the game in the first 10 minutes of the first half, his second goal assisted by senior Glazier. Junior Will Armstrong fought for two goals in the first half, assisted by seniors Granville and Flanagan. A third goal was scored by Armstrong at the end of the second half, assisted again by Granville. In the second half senior Pappas made a goal as well.
EMTs were called in the second half of the game when a Clinton player injured his knee. The game was paused for about 20 minutes while an ambulance arrived and the player was removed from the field on a stretcher.
The Trojans play Littleton Thursday, Sept. 13, at Littleton High School at 3:30 p.m. and Tyngsborough Monday, Sept. 17, at 4 p.m. at home.
