By a unanimous vote, the Harvard School Committee approved the hiring of current Hildreth Elementary School Principal Linda Dwight as the next permanent superintendent of schools for the district, contingent on successful completion of contract negotiations.
Members of the School Committee praised Dwight's "quiet confidence" as well as her approachability, leadership, and commitment to the community.
Because the contract for interim Superintendent Joe Connelly runs through June 2014, Dwight's position would not take effect until July of that year.
The vote was taken in a special meeting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14. The meeting was recorded by HCTV but was not simultaneously broadcast. After voting, the School Committee went into executive session to discuss the terms of Dwight's contract.
