Eleven minutes and 20 seconds. That’s how long it took the 40 or so Harvard Town Caucus participants to nominate 23 candidates for the April 8 town election. Steven Cronin was quickly nominated to be the caucus chairman, and Nancy Cronin was nominated to be the recording secretary. They took their places at the head of the table in the Town Hall meeting room and made short work of the nominations. “That was a record,” one resident was heard to say as the caucus adjourned.
At least one candidate was nominated for each open position, but only three positions had more than one nominee. If all nominees accept, there will be contested races for Constable, the Community Preservation Committee and the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Here are the 2014 Town Caucus nominees:
- Town Moderator (1 year): Robert Eubank
- Selectmen (2 for 3 years): Ron Ricci, Marie Sobalvarro
- Cemetery Commission (3 years): Jack Spero
- Community Preservation Committee (2 for 3 years): Elizabeth Williams, John Lee, Tina Allen

Nominees who didn’t sign their acceptance at the Town Caucus have until March 4 at 5 p.m. to do so. Candidates who were not nominated may still get on the ballot with nomination papers signed by 41 registered Harvard voters. Nomination papers must also be turned in by the 5 p.m. March 4 deadline.
