The Harvard Conservation Trust will distribute alternate-leaved dogwood seedlings at the Transfer Station Saturday, April 28, from 8 a.m. to noon, and on the Common Sunday, April 29, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The alternate-leaved dogwood, a deciduous shrub, provides unusual visual interest in all seasons. Its flowers are showy, flat-topped clusters of creamy white, which become dark blue fruits enjoyed by many bird species. It thrives in partial shade, in soil with plenty of leafy mulch. The shrubs are free to Harvard Conservation Trust members and are available to non-members for a $5.00 contribution.
