Late Friday afternoon, the Harvard Press received a press release from the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission.
The commission's enforcement division, in two orders to show cause, alleged that Superintendent of Schools Thomas Jefferson and former School Committee member Paul Wormser violated the conflict of interest law by using their official positions to secure for Wormser reimbursement of private school tuition by the Harvard schools.
The Ethics Commission can impose civil penalties of up to $2,000 for a violation of the conflict of interest law committed prior to Sept. 29, 2009. Violations after that date are subject to higher penalties.
The public hearing in these matters is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, Nov. 12 and 13.
