Per tradition, the Harvard Conservation Trust will ring in the New Year with a stroll on Harvard’s forests and fields. This year participants will explore the Black Pond land, walking over duck boards, passing vernal pools and through a hemlock forest in decline, walking atop a narrow escarpment and seeing historical evidence of limestone mining. The total distance is about two miles; total time about one hour. All are welcome; no charge. Bring appropriate footwear, since areas may be icy or snow covered, and perhaps a hiking pole for stability. Meet in the Friendly Crossways parking lot at 247 Littleton County Road. The walk will start promptly at noon on Monday, Jan. 1.
