My friends Sue and Stephen Lindsay have released their second CD, From the Blue to the Green, and it’s just gorgeous. This husband and wife duo performs in Irish acoustic/folk music tradition. Stephen is a rare sort of performer that simply lights up the room. When he starts singing, you don’t want him to ever stop. Whenever he sings a lyric referencing Ireland, you just want to cry, even if you’re not even Irish. Sue is a wonderful and charismatic saxophonist and flautist (etc.), and her background vocals bring additional warmth and depth to the arrangements. Sue plays sax on my own CD too, by the way, which lends me some much-needed credibility! But the Lindsays’ performances here really exude the warm, funny, friendly, slightly salty, and always delightful personalities of both artists, plus their various accomplices, and the recording quality throughout this project is top notch.
After first listening to this album, my first comment to Sue was, “You have a killer bodhrán player.” Her response was, “Yes, but it took our killer engineer to mic him so well and to mix him out front so fearlessly.” Good point. Everybody is killer, here. And they killed it.
If you like Irish music or folk music, you'll like this. Or, you'll like it if you like Sue or Stephen. Or if you like “Smoke and Strong Whiskey.” Really wonderful stuff!
