The Bromfield girls softball team trounced West Boylston, 8–2, in its season opener, but then fell to North Middlesex 18–6, Lunenburg 16–2, and Fitchburg 16–6.
The Trojans traveled to face the West Boylston Lions Thursday, April 12. West Boylston scored one of its runs in the first inning and its second in the third. The Trojans broke away in the third inning, plating their first four runs of the game. They added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings and topped off the afternoon with two more in the seventh.
On Friday, April 13, Bromfield went to Townsend to face North Middlesex Regional. Two Patriot sophomores scored three homers, two by Maggie Hackler and one by Alex Bellemare. North Middlesex had a record of 2–1 after the game.
Bromfield battled Lunenburg, Monday, April 23. The Blue Knights put up six runs in the first inning and eight in the second, pulling far into the lead. Lunenburg scored its last two runs in the third inning. Bromfield scored one run in the first inning and another in the third. The Trojans had nine hits, while the Blue Knights had 12. The win put Lunenburg in second place in the Midland-Wachusett League Division D.
Fitchburg defeated Bromfield at home, Thursday, April 26. Although the Trojans took the lead in the third inning, scoring four runs to the Red Raiders’ three, Fitchburg retaliated with four more runs in the fourth inning and seven in the fifth. Bromfield added another two in the sixth, and Fitchburg closed with two runs in the seventh inning. The Red Raiders had 17 hits, while Bromfield had five.
The games left Bromfield in fourth place in the Mid-Wach League Division D and with an overall record of 1–3. The Trojans’ next game was Tuesday, May 1, against Tyngsborough.
