Police Log: March 5 to 11, 2019

Police made three motor vehicle stops last week, all resulting in verbal warnings. They also issued three parking tickets and helped two drivers with disabled vehicles. Officers responded to seven medical emergencies, from which the ambulance squad took four people to area hospitals, three with Advanced Life Support on board. The Police Department issued or renewed two firearms licenses.

Tuesday, March 5
A 911 caller reported a one-car accident at 7:34 a.m. near the corner of Pond Road and Mass. Ave. While taking the bend there, the car had gone off the road and across a lawn; the driver was cited for excessive speed and a lane violation. A Slough Road resident called at 8:44 a.m. to report a case of credit card fraud. At 2:27 p.m. Harvard police helped Bolton officers at an accident scene in Bolton. And another crash at 3:05 p.m. brought state police and the Harvard ambulance crew to Route 2; the ambulance took a person to the hospital.

Wednesday, March 6
At 9:05 a.m. a resident came to the station to report another case of credit card fraud. At 11:48 a.m. Acton police asked for Harvard’s help in locating a car that had been involved in a collision; officers found the car a little later at 1:59 p.m. At 3:12 p.m. the police took an additional report related to Tuesday’s credit card fraud case.

Thursday, March 7
Nothing of significance to report.

Friday, March 8
At 4:59 p.m. state police responded to a crash on Route 2 westbound. Someone had suffered injuries, and the Harvard ambulance took the person to the hospital. A second collision on Route 2 westbound took place at 6:13 p.m., this time with no injuries reported.

Saturday, March 9
At 3 p.m. an officer spoke to someone who was driving recklessly behind the high school and also notified the driver’s parents.

Sunday, March 10
A 911 caller at 5:30 a.m. reported that a car had struck a deer on Littleton County Road. At 12:02 p.m. state police responded to a crash on Route 2 eastbound. At 9:25 p.m. a caller reported an accident on Finn Road at Withington Lane; no one was injured and the car was towed. A Bolton Road resident called at 9:43 p.m. to say a transformer nearby had blown; National Grid was informed.

Monday, March 11
Boxborough police asked for Harvard’s help at 10:49 a.m. in dealing with a shirtless man standing in the road and yelling at passing cars, but they canceled the request when the man left the area. At 3:06 p.m. someone called about a woman changing license plates on a car at the Still River post office; the officer found that she had just registered her car in Massachusetts. An East Bare Hill Road resident called 911 at 5:22 p.m. to report that her husband—the same man Boxborough police had confronted that morning—had vandalized their house, taken the dogs, and driven away. Police issued a be-on-the-lookout alert for the car. The man was later located in Connecticut and taken to a hospital. At 10:16 p.m. someone called about cars speeding, or possibly racing, on Bolton Road; the cars were gone when police arrived.

The police log is written by a Harvard Press reporter based on information gleaned from daily police logs and interviews with police staff. Decisions to publish or withhold names of people arrested is based on our need to balance the privacy of individuals with our responsibility to report news of significance and public safety.
