Former resident, gymnastics teacher, lifelong athlete
Gerlinde F. Boyack, 82, of Hampton, New Hampshire, died peacefully Monday, Sept. 3, 2018.
Born in Bad Homburg, Germany, on Nov. 7, 1935, a daughter of the late Johannes and Anny (von Hayn) Fritzen, she immigrated to the United States at the age of 21. She had been a resident of Hampton for 18 years, previously residing in Waltham, Harvard, Lexington, and Marblehead.
She worked as an innovative instructor of physical fitness for adults and movement education for children. She was a rhythmic gymnastic teacher to hundreds of grade school children in Winchester. Her popular adult classes in Marblehead, Woburn, Lexington, and Hampton attracted many long-term followers. In addition to teaching her classes, she presented her philosophy and programs at workshops and seminars sponsored by universities and YMCAs throughout the country.
As a lifelong athlete, Gerlinde was a flat-water kayak racer in her youth and took up white-water kayaking and skiing in her middle age. She was also a jogger and/or walker throughout her life. While engaged in all these activities she was a dedicated mother who raised four children. She greatly enjoyed classical music, reading, and traveling.
Gerlinde shared 56 years of marriage with her late husband, James R. Boyack, who predeceased her in 2014.
Family members include her children, Cindy Boyack, Heidi Barba, Tonia Kopp, and Evan Boyack; and her grandchildren, Stefanie, Ryan, Larissa, Isabella, and Jessica. She is also survived by her brother Bodo Fritzen and sister Ingrid Nemelka and many nieces and nephews.
