For a second year, The Harvard Press was among the finalists for the New England Newspaper and Press Association’s award for general excellence among small weeklies (circulation less than 5,000). Last year the Press placed first, winning gold. This year the paper was a bronze medalist, placing third.
The winner was the Mount Desert Islander, a paper that has taken home the prize eight times. In second place was the Inquirer and Mirror of Nantucket.
The Press was a finalist in two other small press categories as well. Former Press intern and UMass Amherst senior Grace Fiori won third place in business for her feature on Blood Farm of West Groton. The paper also placed third in the General News category for its reporting on the emergency shelter at Devens from late 2022 through the spring of 2023.
