For only the second time in the team’s history, Bromfield’s varsity golf players earned a place this fall at the MIAA State Division 2 championship, held Oct. 29 at the Taconic Golf Course in Williamstown. Among the 12 teams that qualified, Bromfield finished 10th with a team score of 352, six strokes better than Oakmont, which beat Bromfield at districts by two strokes. Winchester won the championship with a team score of 313, one stroke ahead of Concord/Carlisle.

Sophomore Adrian Curtis tied for 17th among 112 players with a score of 79, Bromfield’s lowest. His brother, junior Freddie Curtis, tied for 28th place with a score of 80. Eighth-grader Evan Piekos placed 87th with a score of 96; and junior Cole O’Neil tied for 88th with a score of 97. Eighth-grader Quin Miller and junior Zack Pelak made up the rest of the team.

With a team so young, noted Coach Rod Van Guilder, Bromfield had not been expected to place in the Central Division 2 districts, much less win a spot at states. The team finished with a 12-3 league record.

In another notable season achievement, Freddie Curtis set a new Bromfield record with a 5 under par 31 against Littleton High School at Red Tail Golf Club Oct. 3. The round included four consecutive birdies and an eagle, sunk on a shot from 168 yards.
