Employees from Rollstone Bank & Trust (RBT) rolled up their sleeves to help Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts (Habitat NCM) with one of its Critical Home Repair Projects in Littleton, MA, this past weekend, by replacing wallboard and insulation in a homeowner’s basement.
The four-hour project involved repairs necessary due to water damage. RBT’s Community Crew repaired insulation, replaced drywall, and painted the ceiling to prevent future mold.
This project is an extension of Rollstone’s donation of $10,000 to Habitat NCM earlier this year to support the Critical Repair Program to help families living in affordable homes in the Leominster/Fitchburg area.
“We have advocated for the Critical Repair program so that people can stay in their homes rather than having to relocate,” said Martin F. Connors, Jr., President & CEO of Rollstone Bank & Trust. “The support for the program has increased greatly and is expected to grow by another 50% in the coming year. Rollstone is proud to support something that makes our communities a home for so many people.”
The Critical Home Repair Program helps low-income homeowners who struggle to maintain the integrity of their homes and addresses the health and safety of the residences in a neighborhood, strengthening the community and preserving the affordable housing stock. It includes projects such as changing or repairing siding and roofs, modifications for accessibility including ramps, floor repair, window replacement, insulation and updates to meet city codes.
“Helping low income homeowners maintain the safety and accessibility of their homes through critical home repairs is a fundamental part of our mission,” said Carolyn Read, Executive Director for Habitat NCM. “We are proud knowing that we are making a difference in the lives of local, low-income homeowners who know they have a place to turn for help with these critical home repairs.”
Habitat programs have a deep and lasting impact on the families they serve, which provides an immediate and life changing benefit. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to pay Habitat North Central Massachusetts zero-percent interest loan for the home and invest sweat equity of eight hours per $1,000 of loan amount on the repairs of the home.
