Fire and Light presents the work of internationally renowned artist, Otto Piene (b. Germany, 1928-2014), focusing on artworks created since the mid-1980s when he moved to Groton, MA.

One of the oldest juried exhibitions in New England. This annual summer tradition at the Fitchburg Art Museum strives to discover, encourage, and celebrate the artists and crafters of our region.

The seventh annual collaboration between the Fitchburg Art Museum and ArtsWorcester that features works from FAM’s collection and by ArtsWorcester members in one collaborative exhibition.

Admission is free after 3pm. Guided Tours at 4:30pm. Shop at the Fitchburg Farmers Market from November through June.

Lecture: “Introduction to Oceanic Art”

Dr. Jean Borgatti, Curator, will give a brief overview of art from the Pacific Islands, and then we’ll tour the exhibition where she will explain the significance of masks, personal adornment, shields, and sculpture in Pacific Island cultures. FREE with Museum admission.

A Night at the Museum: The Age of Aquarius

Performance of Piene’s Light Robots by artist John Powell; panel discussion with Lynette Roth of Harvard Art Museums, George Fifield of Boston Cyberarts, and Seth Riskin of MIT; and a poetic reflection by Otto Piene’s widow, poet and media artist Elizabeth Goldring. FREE with Museum admission.

April Vacation Week Workshops

Sky Art Event

Help fly one of Otto Piene’s inflatable sculptures, or swing by to observe and draw. Drawing supplies and tables will be available for children (and adults) to draw the floating sculptures. Location: Lowe Playground (located across the street from the Museum on Elm Street)

Pacific Islands Family Day

Travel off to the Pacific Islands through art projects, a dance performance, and live animals. FREE for everyone.

Celebrate the opening of three new exhibitions, including the 84th Regional Exhibition of Art and Craft! The event is FREE to the public. Guests are welcome to enjoy light refreshments and a cash bar.
