The Harvard Press is looking for a reporter to cover the Planning Board—a board that over the next several years will be making decisions that promise to touch the lives of every Harvard citizen in one way or another.
The tasks facing the board are many: creating viable multifamily zoning to meet new state law, planning for Ayer Road’s scheduled 2026 renovation, evaluating and possibly revising the zoning in our commercial district, and tending to the many planning-related tasks outlined in Harvard’s 2016 Master Plan, to name just a few.
Eventually, the board’s work and the decisions it makes will significantly affect every resident. Who better than a Harvard Press reporter to keep people apprised of the board’s work, and when Town Meeting rolls around, prepare them to better understand what they’ll be voting on?
As a Press reporter assigned to the Planning Board beat, you would follow its meetings, projects, interactions with the public and other boards, and in general keep track of its deliberations and decisions. While we value prior reporting and writing experience, whether gained in a high school, college, or professional newsroom, we welcome and support newcomers who share our passion for independent and local news.
