While the full force of Hurricane Sandy has yet to reach Harvard, power outages have been reported in the area this morning, according to National Grid. Town officials have not issued any statements on the storm, but Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick declared a statewide State of Emergency and told state workers to stay home today.
The National Weather Service is predicting the storm will pick up later today, with heavy rain and strong winds gusting up to 55 miles per hour.
MBTA service, including the Commuter Rail, will be suspended starting at 2 p.m. today.
The Massachsuetts Emergency Management Agency has issued a list of “power outage safety tips,” available online.
The Harvard Press will continue to report on developments from the storm throughout the day and tomorrow.
