The Ayer Road bridge over Route 2 will not be completely closed to traffic in either direction, according to a phone and email message sent by the town this afternoon. The town had announced yesterday that the state Department of Transportation would be closing the bridge for about two months due to "safety reasons."
Today, a town update says the state will not have to completely close the bridge.
"After further evaluation today, it has been determined that the two outermost lanes of the bridge will be closed, which still allows for two-way vehicular traffic," the message said. "Once construction begins, there may be traffic delays in that area, so you should still plan your commute accordingly.
