Habitat for Humanity receives $10,000 from Middlesex Savings

Press release submitted by Habitat for Humanity, North Central Massachusetts

Habitat for Humanity of North Central Massachusetts announced it received a $10,000 grant awarded by the Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation for the 2020 fiscal year. The support will allow Habitat for Humanity NCM to support the Critical Home Repair Program in Western Middlesex County.

The Critical Home Repair Program is a home preservation program. It provides needed interior and exterior repairs for low income homeowners to live in a safe, decent, and affordable place. This program focuses on safety, security, accessibility, and weatherization as well as keeping homes up to city codes. Habitat NCM assists low-income families in need through the purchase of building material, project management oversight, construction leadership, and coordination of volunteer labor. Projects include replacing or patching leaking roofs, installing ramps, renovating interiors for accessibility, weatherization, replacing doors and windows, repairing stairs and entrance ways, repairing furnaces and water heaters, and reworking electrical systems.

“This grant will continue to facilitate our mission to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter for our community in Western Middlesex County,” said Carolyn Read, Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity NCM. “This will help low-income home owners maintain the safety and comfort of their affordable homes through critical home repairs.”

Habitat for Humanity NCM is a nonprofit organization serving North Central Massachusetts by building simple, decent, energy efficient, affordable homes and critical home repairs. Habitat for Humanity NCM brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. “Supporting and celebrating our grant recipients is an honor we look forward to each year,” said Dana Neshe, president of the Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation. “Our relationships with them have allowed Middlesex to deepen its understanding of the many challenges facing our neighbors today. Underwriting the organizations that work hard to face these challenges head-on is one way we seek to be right there with our community.”
