Harvard DPW worker Ben Gilbert told the Press today that he and other DPW drivers had gone out around midnight on Monday, Jan. 26, and had been plowing continuously since then. The hours from 3 to 7 a.m. were the worst, because the snow was falling so quickly and the visibility was so poor that driving was very difficult, according to Gilbert.
The DPW had nine plows out, basically all of its working equipment. One plow was sidelined early in the storm, after its heating system quit and the driver had no way to keep the windshield clear.
