In the first quarter, Bromfield's full-court press effectively held Murdock to only seven offensive shots taken and a 30 second shot clock violation against Murdock. Junior starting point guard Casey Magrath had two steals, three breakaways, and six points within the first eight minutes of the game. Junior co-captain Montana Burke had two rebounds, two consecutive free throw shots, a steal, and a perfectly arched three point shot.
Bromfield established an early lead of 18–6 heading into the second quarter.
Junior starting forward Sue Ross led her team in rebounding in the second quarter with four rebounds. Burke had a defensive rebound and then assisted teammate Magrath with a long overhead pass for a two-point layup. On the next offensive play down the court, Magrath scored another two points off an assist from senior co-captain Katja Lierhaus.
Off the bench, freshmen Maegan Cullinan and Elly vandeVaart exhibited defensive hustle; each played strong defense and had one steal. When asked about his team's performance during the first half of the game, Coach Mike Dube said, "We need to work on making our layups, but we are doing all right on offense. We are playing defense the way we should and no team should be able to beat us when we play this way."
The Bromfield players collectively had 14 rebounds in the third quarter. Magrath had three steals and three assists. The Trojans scored 17 points despite Murdock's tight man-to-man defense. Ross had one steal and three baskets, two out of the three assisted by senior Molly Papazian. Ross scored six points in the third quarter and 13 points overall. Burke perfectly executed a left hook shot down under the basket followed by back-to-back baskets by senior Brittany Lee on the next two offensive plays.
Magrath scored a jump shot and sank two foul shots against the zone defense Murdock initiated in the fourth quarter. After Burke had a clean defensive block, Lierhaus received the ball in front of an open basket for an easy two-point shot. Freshman Amy Jorgenson stole the ball from Murdock and took the ball in for a strong two-point layup.
Ross scored the last point of the game from the foul line adding to a total of nine points scored in the fourth quarter by Bromfield. The final score was Bromfield 55 and Murdock 23.
"Everyone had playing time, which is really important as we move into the post season," Magrath said.
"Every team member contributed something against Murdock and it was a satisfying victory," agreed teammate Lierhaus. "We had some great fast breaks, good transitions from defense to offense, were aggressive on defense, and played with a lot of effort."
Overall, Magrath said, "We played really well as an entire team on both offense and defense. Everyone contributed and we're looking forward to playing Littleton on Friday."
