It's time to let you know that I've decided to retire from the Harvard Press after our July 4 issue is out the door, the week ending July 8. There are a lot of interests that have been calling my name for quite some time, and I've decided that this is the time in my life to pay attention.
I plan to spend more time on activities related to a sustainability group in Bolton that I helped cofound about three years ago, and I want to cultivate more freelance writing opportunities in areas that are important to me. (I currently write regularly for two national magazines.) There's a new garden I want to put in, and I hope to dust off my sketch pad, open that box of sculpting tools I bought last year, become reacquainted with my camera, do some travelling … you get the idea.
It's been an interesting ride covering the goings-on in Harvard for the past seven years, the last four (almost) here at the Press. In fact, this culturally rich community and the things I've learned here are part of what has inspired me to set my sails in a new direction.
Meanwhile, the crew at the Press is already busy looking for a new editor. We're sure the right person is out there; if it's you, stop by the office!
I'm looking forward to embarking on Life, Part II.
