U.S. News & World Report ranks Bromfield among the top 100 high schools in the country. In an article in this week’s Press, recent graduates report feeling very well prepared for college by their Bromfield education. And Bromfield students are already making a difference in the world.
This week 2009 Bromfield grad Sam Peisch talks about his experience in Zambia this fall—a trip he chose to fill the time between graduation and the start of his college career at Middlebury College in February. He was inspired to start two nonprofits in the country, and was assisted by Bromfield students back home, including members of this year’s and last year’s varsity soccer teams and senior Ben Landry, who decided to spend part of his summer vacation this year as a teacher’s aide in India (as reported in the Dec. 4 issue of the Press).
This week, commenting on the ranking by U.S. News & World Report, Schools Superintendent Tom Jefferson talked about the achievement as a district accomplishment, resulting from a lot of community support, and we agree. There is an old African proverb that says, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Harvard is a community that imbues in its children a strong sense of values and social responsibility. Add this to the excellent and supportive teachers and administrators at the elementary and high school levels, and you have a winning combination. And now it really shows.
