What a party the library opening was! Such a turnout—more even than Town Meeting. Such energy. So many smiles and handshakes and hugs. We congratulate the Library Building Committee and all who worked with it to build this landmark of past, present, and future Harvard.
The jury’s still out on the bright, striped carpet, we hear, and Garden Club members who watched their hard work trampled underfoot would like to see more care taken around the building, but those are the few rumblings we’ve heard amidst avalanches of praise for the design, light, views, colors, shapes, furniture, windows, energy-efficient features, and on and on. To know that the Friends of the Library are looking for live acts (and movies?) to perform in Volunteer Hall is just icing on the cake. And saving the creaky 129-year-old hardwood floors in the hall—priceless.
Our thanks for a job well done. Built, funded, and thoroughly enjoyed!
