Who could imagine that someone would set an animal trap on one of the most heavily used parcels of conservation land in town? Holy Hill in Shaker Village attracts all ages in all seasons. School groups walk the land as part of their Shaker history lesson. Residents walk, run, bird watch, sketch, photograph that mystical area of Harvard, often paying more attention to their surroundings than their footsteps. Any child or adult could easily have wandered 20 feet off the trail, as Marley the dog did, and had their foot or leg trapped in the metal leg-hold trap. Who could imagine the thoughtlessness?
