A town like Harvard can only keep its small-town feel if people keep volunteering for its boards, committees, and especially for its fire and ambulance departments. Harvard is lucky to have the high school EMT program, because those volunteers make up more than half the ambulance squad. It’s a great program, and we applaud the students who take the training and make the calls. We applaud all the public safety volunteers and hope they have very little work to do. We also hope that adults continue to be involved, because an ambulance squad can’t run on high school volunteers alone.
