Residents who attended Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting gave accounts of incidents on Littleton Road that illustrated the road’s long and troubling safety history. People said they had contacted the police many times, asking that something be done, but nothing has happened. At the same meeting we learned that the police do, in fact, have responsibility for maintaining proper signage and proper safety on the town’s byways. So why has nothing been done? Has it been a low priority for the police department, or the selectmen, or both? The police chief, the highway superintendent, and Selectman Tim Clark are scheduled to meet to develop a strategy for addressing road safety issues in town. We look forward to seeing some action out of this. The time has come to break out of the “paralysis of analysis” and actually do something. And we hope Littleton Road will be at the top of the list.
