The Harvard Press editorial staff has decided to replace the My Two Cents opinion column with a new one called “Consider This.”
“Consider This” is a place for original, thought-provoking opinion pieces of no more than 1,000 words, written not as a reaction to something that appeared recently in the Press, but in consideration of a topic that has been in the paper over several weeks or months or of a subject that has been or is likely to be of general interest to town residents. (State aid, maybe? Devens disposition? A vision for town center? Ways to generate revenue for the town? Dealing with a faltering economy? Alternative energy?)
Readers with opinions to express in reaction to articles that have appeared in the paper are invited, as always, to write a letter to the editor (word-count limit 350).
“Consider This” is not a column for people who merely want to vent a complaint. Positions expressed should be well thought-out and well articulated. The column is open to any Harvard resident. Articles are subject to acceptance by the editor and are subject to editing for clarity, length, grammar, and punctuation. Writers are strongly encouraged, though not required, to test their ideas with the editor before submitting articles for “Consider This.”
