Avid gardener, mother of Harvard man
Margaret Crosby Daniels, 100, of Quincy and Orleans, died peacefully in her home, March 5, 2010, surrounded by her family and caregivers.
An avid gardener, Margaret found peace and solitude in her beautiful gardens surrounding the Cape Cod home she and her husband, George, built in the 1950s overlooking Little Pleasant Bay. Together, they cultivated hybrid rhododendron varieties from seed. Her favorite rites of spring included attending the annual flower show in Boston and readying various seedlings for transplant to her Cape gardens.
Margaret attended Vesper George School of Art and was a registered nurse who graduated from the School of Nursing at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
Margaret was an independent woman of many talents and skills. She was an exceptional cook who delighted in entertaining guests, often with captivating stories of her childhood growing up in the oldest house in North Revere and summer visits to her parents’ family in Nova Scotia.
Her endless interest in the activities of her family and friends was central to her joy in life. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who touched many lives with her kindness and ready wit.
She was the beloved wife of the late George R. Daniels and the loving mother of George W. Daniels of Pittsford, N.Y. and Robert E. Daniels of Harvard. She was the sister of the late William Crosby and the cherished grandmother of Scott Daniels of New Hampshire; Ethan Daniels of California; Chad Daniels, Drew Daniels, and Brett Daniels, all of Harvard.
