Marjorie Klein

Longtime resident, active community volunteer

Marjorie “Midge” (Comstock) Klein, 90, of Bolton Road, died Feb. 22, 2010, at Brooksby Village in Peabody, with her family around her, after a long illness. She was born in Hartford, Conn. on Aug. 9, 1919, daughter of the late Howard and Olga (Nelson) Comstock, and was the wife of the late J. Lester Klein, who died in 1985

She grew up in West Hartford, Conn., and graduated from Children’s Hospital Nursing School. She married Lester in 1941 and they made their home in Pennsylvania, Greater Boston, and finally Harvard, since 1960. Midge worked as a nurse at Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer for many years.

Mrs. Klein worked into her 80s at Fruitlands Museum in Harvard as an interpreter of the Hudson River School of Art. She was a very active community volunteer in the Harvard Unitarian Church and its caring community. An award-winning craftswoman and weaver, she created original designs and worked in many fabric mediums. Midge was a loving and involved grandmother to her grandsons.

Her survivors include a son, Joseph, and his wife, Linda ,of Pine, Colo.; a daughter, Jane, and her husband, Nelson Bright, of Marblehead. She is also survived by a sister, Carol Griggs, of Raymond, Maine, and two grandsons, Will Bright of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Ross Bright of Seattle, Wash.

A memorial service was held at the Harvard Unitarian Church Wednesday, Feb. 24. A private burial was held at Bellevue Cemetery.
