In an interview with The Harvard Press last week, Ayer Selectman Rick Gilles outlined his views on Devens topics and talked about Ayer’s role in the disposition of Devens.

MCAS scores released in September show that Bromfield continues to rank at the top or among the top few schools in English, math, and this year in the new science test. Scores in 10th-grade English and math ranked number one out of 341 schools participating in the test. Eighth-grade English scores ranked second out of 462 schools.

At its Sept. 18 meeting the Joint Boards of Selectmen, representing Ayer, Harvard, and Shirley, tried to determine the best way to forecast housing growth at the former Army land on Devens, a forecast that will be a significant factor in determining final disposition scenarios.

Last Saturday, Sept. 27, approximately 45 citizens participated in a public forum hosted by Harvard’s Board of Selectmen and facilitated by MRPC (Montachusett Regional Planning Commission). The purpose of the forum was to solicit public input on the current draft (Sept. 16, 2008) of the Devens Disposition Success Criteria, the document that represents Harvard’s requirements in the process for disposition of Devens.

The Harvard Board of Health has become involved in the recent controversy over unleashed dogs and charges of accumulating feces and dogs fighting and jumping on small children at the Delaney Wildlife Management Area.
