Harvard Police Officer Kimberly Murphy was arrested on Thursday, Dec. 22, on Harvard Road in Ayer, for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The arrest was at 10:15 p.m., according to Ayer Police logs.
Harvard Police Chief Edward Denmark told the Press Wednesday the matter is currently under investigation. Murphy has been on family medical leave from the police department since November and is not scheduled to return until February. As of Wednesday, “That status has not changed,” Denmark said.
Denmark said the Harvard Board of Selectmen voted Wednesday morning to hold a disciplinary hearing for Murphy. The date of that hearing is pending the completion of his investigation, Denmark said.
According to the Harvard Police website, Murphy’s assignments include serving as a R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) instructor, a child safety seat technician, and a school resource officer.
