In an email this afternoon to the Harvard General Store’s mailing lists, Adam Horowitz announced that he and his wife, Lyn, are seeking a new owner for the business they opened in 2008 in the building on Harvard’s common.
The Horowitzes had purchased the building a year earlier, after it had been vacant for several years, and had renovated the two lower floors to operate as a general store. Two years ago, they obtained one of two wine and malt beverages package licenses in Harvard, and added beer and wine to the store's offerings.
In his email Horowitz explained that, because he and Lyn have relocated to London, they are no longer able to operate the store, and will seek a new owner. They hope to have a proposal they can accept by July 4, Horowitz wrote, ensuring the store's continuation as a community resource. Horowitz indicated they would move to close the store if they did not have a viable proposal by that time. He said that they are keeping their Woodchuck Hill Road home, and expect to return to Harvard. He also indicated his intention to keep the building.
The Harvard Press office is located on the third floor of the general store building and Adam Horowitz is an owner of the Harvard Press.
