A new gas station is currently under construction in Ayer just across the Ayer-Harvard town line. The new Alltown station will be located on Ayer Road, directly opposite the current Mr. Mike’s Market refueling station, and on the site of the former Maxant Industries building.
At a July 10, 2018, meeting of the Ayer Planning Board, Jesse Johnson of Bohler Engineering stated that the 6-acre site will include a 4800-square-foot convenience store, which is expected to generate 15 new jobs. The Alltown station will include 16 gasoline pumps and four diesel pumps. Johnson planned for large trucks to refuel at the diesel pumps, locating them at the rear of the building to keep the trucks away from the road.
According to Timothy Letton, traffic engineer at Greenman-Pedersen Inc., the firm hired by Alltown for traffic analysis,
the station is expected to generate approximately 960 new trips weekly along Route 111, with 20 being trailer trucks. The property will have separate turning lanes for entering and exiting the station, and a bypass lane in front of it. There will be a sidewalk extending around its road frontage, and all parking will be located behind the building.
Alltown is a sub-brand of Alliance Energy LLC, itself wholly owned by Global Partners LP. All of Alliance/Global’s over 1,000 stations sell ExxonMobil gasoline, and there are about 70 Alltown markets scattered throughout New England. The menu items at these markets often include craft beer, fresh produce, and avocado toast in addition to more traditional convenience store fare.
Mr. Mike’s Market at 27 Harvard Road will be decommissioned with the opening of the Alltown station across the street.
