The Bromfield Trojans pulled off a last-second Senior Night win over Hudson last Thursday, Feb. 9, 45-43. It was Bromfield boys varsity basketball team's second win against Hudson this season.

Before the game, Bromfield seniors thanked their parents via the tradition of presenting their families with bouquets of flowers. Seniors Brian McCullough, Sam Shepherd, Peter Killian, and Hunter Siegrist, as well as junior Trevor Granville at point guard, started the game. Senior Tucker Edwards remains injured and supported his team from the bench.

Co-captain Shepherd won the jump ball, starting the game with a Bromfield possession. Shepherd scored six out of Bromfield's first eight points and had three rebounds. McCullough, co-captain and starting guard, sank two consecutive free throw shots and had a defensive steal as well as a clean defensive block. Bromfield was down by two points at the end of the first quarter, 10-8.

Junior Trevor Granville started the second quarter with a jump shot assisted by junior forward Matt Griffin. Shepherd again had six points in the second quarter, one of three baskets scored after making an offensive rebound. Granville made a strong drive to the basket, pushing through three opponents that unsuccessfully tried to block his path. Sophomore Ryan Kennedy played strong on the boards, getting four rebounds in the first half. Bromfield was leading 25-22 at halftime.

Bromfield scored 12 points to Tahanto's eight in the third, putting the Trojans ahead by seven points at the close of the quarter. Granville led offensively, scoring six points while McCullough had four and Griffin had two. Griffin and Granville each had a defensive steal within 10 seconds of the other. Granville sank an impressive three-point shot right before the end of the quarter.

"We got tired in the third quarter because Hudson really did have a good offensive run, but what matters is that we recovered," Shepherd said.

Bromfield's zone defense had a hard time shutting down Hudson's outside shooters. With only a little more than one minute left in the game, Bromfield was ahead by a mere three points. At 55 seconds on the clock, Hudson missed a three-point shot from which Granville made a crucial rebound, regaining possession of the ball for Bromfield. McCullough scored a hook shot, establishing a more significant five-point lead for his team.

Hudson made a three-point shot, closing out the score at 45–43.

McCullough's defense caused Hudson to commit a backcourt violation, giving ball possession to Bromfield. On the game's last play, Bromfield inbounded the ball and ran down the clock.

When asked about his team's victory in the final minute of the game, McCullough said: "It was crazy. We had good defense and it really was a great team win in which everyone contributed. We executed as needed both offensively and defensively."

Shepherd said the parents were more sad than the players on Senior Night.

"It was bittersweet, an unforgettable night and a senior night we will never forget," he said. "The win was a team process but would not have been possible without the leadership on and off the court by Brian [McCullough]."

Bromfield is currently in first place in the Midland Wachusett D League with nine league wins and 14 wins overall. They look to the post-season tournament with high hopes.

"The seniors had a great game and everyone else played hard for them to ensure a win on their senior night," player Kevin Sun, a junior, said. "The seniors brought the intensity for sure and next year we are going to miss their talent as well as how much fun they bring to our team."

In a home game Monday night, Bromfield lost to West Boylston, 49-42.
