NRWA auctionaccepting donations
The Nashua River Watershed Association Auction 2012 will be held on Saturday evening, March 31, at the Sheraton Four Points hotel in Leominster. The evening will include dinner, a live auction, and a silent auction with hundreds of items. Auction proceeds support the NRWA's land and water protection projects and environmental education programs in 32 communities in north central Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.
The NRWA is currently seeking auction donations. Donations can include things like professional sports tickets, high tech items, professional services, or a fun experience. The donation deadline is March 1.
The NRWA will also be holding an online auction Thursday, March 1, through Friday, March 30, at www.biddingforgood.com/NashuaRiverWatershed.
To donate an item or service, or to ask other questions about NRWA's auction, contact Pam Gilfillan, NRWA Development Associate, at 978-448-0299 or pamg@nashuariverwatershed.org.
Little League Baseball and Softball registration
Harvard Little League Baseball and Softball registration is now open. Go to www.harvardbaseball.org and click the "register online" tab for the 2012 spring season. Harvard Little League is for boys and girls ages 5 to 12. (If your child is 5 by Aug. 1, 2012, he or she is eligible to play.)
Standard registration is open until Jan. 31. After that, late fees apply. Opening Day is not far away!
Absentee ballots available
Absentee ballots for the presidential primary on March 6 are now available at the Town Clerk's office. Any voter who will be out of town during polling hours on the day of the election, or who will be unable to vote in person due to physical disability or religious belief, may request an absentee ballot. Massachusetts does not allow absentee voting at will. Follow this link to the town's website for more information or for an application: www.harvard.ma.us/Pages/HarvardMA_Clerk/ab.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot is noon the day before the election. If your ballot needs to be mailed out, allow additional time for mail delivery. The ballot must be received by the Town Clerk before the close of polls on election day. Ballots may not be hand carried out of the office.
Purchase for a purpose
Purchases made at the Middle School Youth Group's table at the Harvard Unitarian Universalist Church indoor yard sale will help the youth group members meet their goal of raising $300 to fund the high school education of a Cambodian teen. The year's tuition covers basic learning needs like classes with peers, textbooks, and reliable, supportive teachers—privileges available and affordable to few beyond the eighth grade in the farming town of Roteang Village.
The Concord-based Sharing Foundation, whose mission is to provide homes and medical care to orphaned children in Cambodia, created the program in 2004.
The middle schoolers' table at the Fellowship Building on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., will feature home-baked goods, as well as gently used books, CDs, DVDs, and games.
