Boys and girls both win on the track against Murdock

Both the Bromfield boys and girls indoor track teams defeated their Murdock opponents Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Fitchburg High School indoor track.

The Bromfield boys indoor track team led Murdock by a score of 69-22 with victories in seven individual events and both relays. Their record stands at an undefeated 3-0.

Senior Nick Kronauer placed first in both the 600-meter and the 1-mile, with times of 1 minute, 32.9 seconds, and 5 minutes, 3.4 seconds, respectively.

"Nick has always been a great asset to our team," said boys indoor track coach David Boisvert. "He is always a hard worker. As one of the team captains, he sets a good example for the other runners."

Senior Ellis Toll, another team captain, finished first in the 2-mile with a time of 10 minutes, 37.6 seconds.

"[Toll] has been topping scoreboards during his years as a Bromfield runner," said Boisvert. "He has improved tremendously since he first joined track."

Other first-place running performances were made by sophomore Paul Malloy who ran the 1000-meter with the impressive time of 3 minutes, 8.3 seconds, and junior Dan Colony, who sprinted the 55-meter dash with a time of just 7.1 seconds.

The Trojans scored victories in both the 4x200-meter relay, and the 4x400-meter relay.

In addition to the successes on the track, the Bromfield boys dominated the field events. Senior Deji Oyekunle threw shotput to first place with a distance of 39 feet, 3.5 inches, beating his closest opponent by more than 6 feet.

Junior Glenn Steranka lept to first in the high jump, reaching a height of 5 feet, 4 inches.

The Bromfield girls beat Murduck in six individual events and both relays, securing a victory of 62-29. Their record stands at 2-1.

Junior Kate Rowatt placed first in both the 1000-meter and the 1-mile with times of 3 minute, 33.9 seconds, and 6 minute, 10.5 seconds.

Sophomore Alexia Lipman ran to first in the 600-meter with a time of 1 minute, 48.2 seconds.

Junior Alyssa Johnson dominated the 300-meter with a first-place performance of just 48 seconds, surpassing her closest Murdock opponent by 2 seconds.

In the 55-meter hurdles, junior Moriah Arnold placed first with a time of 9.7 seconds.

The Lady Trojans placed first in both the 4x200-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay.

Junior Caroline Turnbull won the high jump, with a height of 4 feet, 10 inches.

"It was a great win for our team," said Coach Ray Dunn for the Bromfield girls. "Several of the girls participated in new events for this meet, which made the team accomplishment very special for all of our athletes."
