Open burning permits available

Open burning permits are now available for purchase online on the town's website at www.harvard.ma.us/Pages/HarvardMA_Fire/burn. You can also purchase them at Town Hall during normal business hours.

Once you have purchased the permit you can activate it each day you wish to burn by calling the dispatch center at 978-456-1212 or doing it online at the same link above.

Girl Scout cookie sales beginning

The first shipment of cookies arrived in town today, and beginning this weekend (Jan. 21) all Girl Scout troops will have a stock of cookies to sell. With eight varieties, these iconic cookies help to fund Girl Scout troop programs for the entire year.

According to the Girl Scouts, selling cookies is directly related to the Girls Scouts' purpose of helping all girls realize their full potential and become strong, confident, and resourceful citizens. The cost of $4 per box includes delivery with a smile, the Scouts say.

Troops will be selling at the Transfer Station Jan. 21 and 28 and at other dates and locations around town, to be determined. If your local neighborhood Brownie has grown up and moved on to college, and you don't know who to ask for cookies, contact Liz Hawkes at 978-456-8358 or emh38@yahoo.com, and she can help connect you with a troop near you.

Confirmation program at Congregational Church

The Congregational Church of Harvard will be offering a confirmation program beginning soon. The class is open to students in grade eight and up and will be taught by Rev. Dr. Gregory W. Schmidt. There will be a parent information meeting on Sunday, Jan. 22., following the 10 a.m. worship service. Interested families are encouraged to contact the church at 978-345-8788 or greg@harvarducc.com.
