New Year's Day Walk

Join Harvard resident Jonathan Feist as he leads the Harvard Conservation Trust's popular annual New Year's Day walk at Holy Hill conservation land. The walk will begin at noon from the South Shaker Road trail head. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served. Free and open to the public.


For Art's Sake Art Displays

A new exhibition featuring the block printing of The Folly Cove Designers in Gloucester is featured this month in the old library. Folly Cove was established in the '40s by Virginia Lee Burton, illustrator, writer, and Caldecott Medal winner for "The Little House." The detailed and colorful prints done on fabric are from the collection of Zoe Eleftherio, an original member of the Folly Cove Designers. Hours are Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For Art's Sake is also featuring the work of Caldecott Medal winner Beth Krommes upstairs @ the general, the second floor gallery space at the Harvard General Store. Krommes visited the schools and library last month to tell about her experience as an illustrator. She is featured as the Artist of the Month at www.forartssake-harvard.org.


Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra at Bromfield

The Tri-M Music Honor Society at the Bromfield School will host a January Jazz concert featuring the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra Wednesday, Jan. 4, from 7 to 10 p.m. in Cronin Auditorium. Admission will be $10 and refreshments will be provided. Proceeds will benefit the Tri-M Music Honor Society and the Bromfield Music Department.


Family Movie Night

The Harvard Public Library will host a Family Movie Night for all ages Friday, Jan. 6, at 6:30 p.m. Popcorn and water will be served. Preregistration requested.


Registration for Origami Workshop

The Harvard Public Library will host two Origami Workshops with Michael LaFosse Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 12:30 p.m. for grades 6 through adult and at 1:45 p.m. for ages 6 to 12. Early registration is recommended by calling the Children's Room at 978-456-2381. Author and artist Michael LaFosse is a seasoned and respected presenter of the paper art who, with Richard Alexander, has authored 32 books on origami and produced over a dozen DVDs. He and Alexander have built origami exhibits at major museums, including the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem and the Louvre in Paris. Family Nature Walk

The Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge will host a Winter Family Nature Walk Thursday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. beginning at the Visitor Center at 680 Hudson Road in Sudbury. Please dress for the weather.


Masonic Breakfast

The Ayer Masonic Association will hold its monthly fundraising breakfast Sunday, Jan. 1, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Ayer Masonic Center, 11 Sculley Road in Ayer. The menu will include eggs cooked to order or pancakes, with bacon or sausage, potatoes, toast, orange or tomato juice, and coffee. In addition, this month's menu will include eggs Benedict and a bacon, mushroom, and sun-dried tomato omelet with cheese.


Annual Christmas Bird Count

The Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge will participate in the National Audubon Annual Christmas Bird Count Monday, Jan. 2, all day. Bird identification skills are helpful, but not necessary.


Indian Hill Piano Concert

Indian Hill Music will present a recital by Brazilian pianist Luiz de Moura Castro Saturday, Jan. 7, at 8 p.m. at the Kalliroscope Gallery, 264 Main St. in Groton. Castro will perform works by Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin, and Villa-Lobos. Tickets, which include a post-concert wine and cheese reception with the artist, are $28/adults, $15/students.
