On the road with COA
Call the COA office at 978-456-4120 for more details or to sign up for trips. Anyone who cannot afford a trip can contact the office about a scholarship.
- Friday, Dec. 30. Because of no van availability on Saturdays, the Council on Aging will be celebrating New Year’s Eve on Friday in a private dining room at the Top of The Hub in Boston. Appetizers, lunch, and dessert, along with hats, noisemakers, and more highlight this annual trip. It’s a dressy occasion for all, with door-to-door van service. Payment of $60 is required at time of reservation.
- Friday, Jan. 13. Originally scheduled for Nov. 3, but canceled due to the snow storm, the tour of WGBH has been rescheduled. The group will have the same itinerary, including a behind-the-scenes tour of WGBH, lunch at the Stockyard Restaurant, and a visit to the MIT Museum in Cambridge. This trip will leaved the Hildreth House at 9:30 a.m. and should be back by 4 p.m. Currently this trip is sold out, but the Council on Aging is taking reservations for standby should there be any cancellations. The cost is $10 plus lunch.
- Monday, Jan. 23. Did you know that there is an operating winery right here in Harvard? The Boston Globe Magazine of Nov. 06 describes a family owned (The Holtzmans) winery producing what the Globe calls, “bliss in a glass.” It’s not quite cider, not quite apple juice, and not quite apple wine. The Holtzmans’ Apfel Eis is sweet and tart without the fire of apple spirits. The Council on Aging will tour their operation and perhaps sample a bit of the finished product. After that, the group will have lunch at the Devens Grill, completing the tour of local Harvard. This trip will leave the Hildreth House at 10:15 a.m. and return by 2:30 p.m. The cost is $10, plus lunch.
