Sour Cream Coffee Cake

Topping ingredients:
⅓ cup brown sugar
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup chopped nuts

Cake ingredients:
½ pound margarine
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ pint sour cream, best with naturally soured whipping cream

Combine topping ingredients and set aside.

Beat margarine in mixer until smooth. Add sugar and beat until mixed in. Beat in eggs one at a time, then vanilla. Meanwhile sift flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda together. Add sour cream to mixture, 1/4 cup at a time, with flour mixture in between. Mix just until the sour cream or flour is mixed in. End with sour cream. (As with most sweet sour cream recipes, the result will be better if you buy heavy cream and let it sour).

Place half the batter in either a 9"x12" cake pan or in two round 8" or 9" cake pans (mixture will be stiff), and sprinkle with half the topping mixture. Add remaining batter, then the rest of the topping.

Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes until done. A toothpick inserted in the middle should come out clean.
