Senior Spotlight: March 11, 2011

Monthly movies in Volunteers Hall

The next monthly movie in Volunteers  Hall will be Monday, March 14, at 1 p.m., when the next episodes of No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency will be shown. Sign-up is helpful, but not required.


Be prepared when disaster comes calling

Ruth Bull of the American Red Cross will be at Hildreth House Tuesday, April 12, to discuss disaster preparedness, as well as the disaster response services that they can provide to the community. Call the COA to sign up.

COA lunch outing

This month’s lunch outing will be at Bamboo in Westford Friday, March 18. The van will leave Hildreth house at 11:30 a.m.; cost is $5 plus the cost of the meal.


Spring dinner and benefit concert

On Sunday, March 20, celebrate the first day of spring with a Chef Paul chicken dinner and a benefit concert for Loaves & Fishes. The celebration will take place at the Congregational Church Parish Hall with appetizers at 4:30 and dinner at 5 p.m. During dessert the Will Play for Food Jazz Trio will entertain. Admission is $15 (due with reservation) and a bag of groceries for Loaves & Fishes. Sign up by March 15.


On the road with COA

Call the COA office at 978-456-4120 for more detailed information or to sign up for trips. Anyone who cannot afford a trip can contact the office about a scholarship.

  • Wednesday, March 23: The COA will offer a trip to Theatre III in Acton for the dress rehearsal performance of Enchanted April. The group will leave Hildreth  House at 7 p.m. Cost is $5.
  • Monday, March 28: This trip will take travelers to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts for a guided tour, starting at 10 a.m. The group will leave Hildreth House at 8:30 a.m. and return by 3 p.m. Lunch will follow the tour. Cost is $32 plus lunch; payment due at time of sign-up.
  • Wednesday, April 6: COA travelers will head to the Deerfied Inn, a traditional country inn built in 1884 and located in the center of the 35-year-old National  Historic Landmark village of Deerfield. The group will have lunch, then tour the village, followed by stops at Williams Sugar house (if they are still making syrup), Richardson’s Candy Store, Yankee Candle, and more, if time allows. Cost is $5 plus lunch. The van will leave Hildreth House at 10 a.m. and will return by 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 30: Reserve tickets now for this trip to the Citi Performing Arts Theatre for a matinee performance of Grease, one of Broadway’s greatest hits. The group will leave Hildreth house at 9:30 a.m. and return by 4:30 p.m. Cost is $78, required with reservation. Tickets are limited.
