Harvard firefighters were among those from several surrounding towns who responded to a large structure fire on Hudson Road in Bolton Friday, June 18. The Harvard department responded to a request for assistance from Bolton’s Fire Department around 3 p.m., along with departments from Boxborough, Hudson, Lancaster, Leominster, Marlborough, Sterling, and Stow.
Harvard Fire Chief Bob Mignard said that the fire destroyed a barn and part of another structure attached to the historic home, which is nearly 300 years old. He said the fire was so hot it damaged one of the fire trucks from another town.
The property is owned by David and Jean McKinley. Mrs. McKinley was home at the time, and was able to get out of the house after calling 911 when the fire broke out.
Mignard said that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
