Market date and time: Saturday, Sept. 20, 9 a.m. to noon
Featured band: Harvard-grown acoustic duo Greg and Matt. Bromfield alum Greg Sullivan is the guitarist and vocalist of the local and nationally known band Genuflect. Joining Greg on guitar and vocals is a former Bromfield soccer hero and fellow schoolmate of Greg’s, Matt Davison, who often accompanies Greg in playing at local venues. Opening from 9 to 10 a.m. is Harvard resident Jon Anderson of the New Hot Times, returning to play his old-time banjo music. He is joined by fellow band member Tom Collins on banjo and vocals.
Featured vendor: Hmong Farm is one of eight commercial farmers within Flats Mentor Farm in Lancaster, a hands-on mentoring farm for small, beginning farmers of diverse ethnic backgrounds. The Hmong are an ethnic group from Asia, with their own language and culture. Most living in the U.S. today are from Laos. The Hmong Farm brings a bounty of distinctive produce to the Farmers’ Market, including pea tendrils, squash blossoms, amaranth, Asian spinach, lemongrass, and bok choy. (The Hmong Farm’s October crop was completely destroyed by recent heavy rains. At this point they are not sure if they will have enough produce to bring to the market after this weekend.)
Market tidbit:
Each week, the HFM volunteers bring a bounty of fruits and vegetables to Wheat Community Services in Clinton, which provides food to those in need. To contribute to the food basket, stop at the market tent.
Next week:
Great Dog Rescue New England will have puppies available for adoption at the market on Sept. 27.
The Harvard Farmers' Market is open Saturdays, August 23 through October 23, 9 a.m. to noon.
