Market date and time: Saturday, Sept. 20, 9 a.m. to noon
Featured band: Wild Edibles, a local band that features Jamie Merkle of Hudson on guitar, banjo, fiddle, and vocals, and Boxborough native Pat Keaney on guitar, dobro, and vocals. Influences include bluegrass, rock, jazz, and blues, with some Mexican corridos and other offbeat numbers thrown in to keep people on their toes—and on their dancing feet.
Featured vendors:
- The Pooch Barkery, from Ayer, will offer homemade dog cookies, including Red Sox cookies, Patriots cookies, Halloween cookies, and more. Be sure to ask them about Yappy Hour and Ayer’s first Halloween dog parade.
- Signal Rock Farm from Charlton will be bringing lamb to the market for the rest of the season. Signal Rock Farm raises sheep on fresh grass pastures. The animals are never fed hormones or feed-grade antibiotics to ensure a healthy diet and free-choice minerals, salt, and water.
This week at the market:
Healthful lifestyle magazine Vegetarian Times adds the Harvard Farmers’ Market to its 2008 Farmers' Market Tour this week. Staff from the magazine will be on site handing out free goody bags, samples, and recipes to attendees. The magazine has also tapped local chef Paul Correnty of the Harvard Public Schools to provide freshly prepared samples of his harvest soup, with slices of fresh French bread for dipping at a cooking demonstration in the Vegetarian Times tent, starting at 10:30 a.m.
Due to last week’s inclement weather, Great Dog Rescue New England will be at the market this week, to introduce some of its dogs and pups available for adoption and to explain the adoption process. GDRNE is a nonprofit, volunteer-based, all-breed rescue that saves and places needy dogs and puppies from local and southern shelters. More information is available at www.gdrne.com.
