My Real Life
'Tis (almost) the season for holiday shopping and former Harvard Press editor Lynda King looks at her pile of catalogs and wonders if it's better to buy local this year. She suggests several unique and local present ideas. Among them: "If you know someone who loves museums, consider a pass to one of the many fine museums in this area."
Another suggestion: "Everyone gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local hair salon or barber? Newbury Street West on Still River Road maybe?"
Check out Lynda's blog for more holiday gift ideas.
Jonathan's Digressions
Harvard resident Jonathan Feist had a tough week earlier this month. Not only did he lose power along with the rest of his town, but a particularly vicious mink took advantage of the snow cover to go on a killing spree, eradicating Jonathan's entire flock of chickens. Read more about how Jonathan survived the power outage and avenged the death of his chickens on his blog.
Retirement Your Way
The latest advice from local retirement planner Chuck Yanikoski concerns your "social portfolio," which is "a simple yet excellent idea concoted by the late Gene Cohen, who was a gerentologist at George Washington University."
Yankikoski updates his blog weekly with new information on planning for retirement.
