Six Bromfield students will be among the 70 student musicians taking part in this year’s Sousa International Honors Band European tour. Samuel Beebe, Aaron Brown, Daniel Jackson, Veronica Lee, Clara Wang, and Jessica Williams will be performing with the band on their home turf at Bromfield next week during pre-tour rehearsals, before heading off to Europe, where they will spend two weeks performing in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland.
The Sousa International Honors Band, a part of the United States Collegiate Wind Bands, is known throughout Europe as one of America’s top touring groups. Participation in the band is by invitation only, to students who have demonstrated excellence in performance on their chosen instrument. Band members are high school and college students representing 22 U.S. states, from Maine to California. The Bromfield musicians are among 11 students selected from throughout New England.
Harvard residents will have a rare opportunity to see the band perform at a dress rehearsal concert Wednesday, June 29, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Cronin Auditorium at Bromfield. The performance will cap three days of rehearsals. Band members will be up early the next day, treated to breakfast prepared by Chef Paul Correnty at Bromfield, then whisked off to Logan Airport for the start of their tour.
Bromfield Music Director Tom Reynolds, who is also the conductor of the MIT Concert Band and an assistant conductor of the Sousa Honors Band, is one of six conductors who will be performing on the tour. Bromfield Percussion Instructor Kaitlyn Revane will also accompany the group.
