The Press stopped by the Transfer Station recently to ask folks if they put a fresh or a frozen turkey on their Thanksgiving tables.
Richard Flokos, Pinnacle Road
"Fresh. We usually buy it from Roche Brothers. Actually, my wife buys it. I’m cheap—I’d get a frozen one. I’ve heard the argument for both. If you buy it frozen, it supposedly has been put in the freezer immediately and is supposed to be safer. But, then again, they say the same thing about the fresh ones."
Linda Preissel, Old Littleton Road
"I’ve had both. Fresh is certainly better. Everything else will be fresh on my table this year, except the turkey. It will probably be Butterball. Personally, I don’t think the fresh taste better."
Anne McWaters, Blanchard Road
"I prefer fresh but we usually have frozen. This year we are definitely having frozen. I won a turkey at the turkey raffle last night. It was my first time going and I won!."
Clark Milliken, Stow Road
"We usually get frozen. I wouldn’t know the difference in the taste."
Mary Ellen Sweeney, Littleton Road
"I’ve always bought frozen because I thought they wouldn’t go bad as fast as a fresh turkey. But, for the last couple of years I’ve been buying fresh from Verrill Farm in Concord. It’s good to support the farmers."
John Burns, East Bare Hill Road
"Fresh. We buy it at Roche Brothers. They are consistently good tasting turkeys."
Rick High, Bolton Road
"Fresh. You have to support local farmers. I buy from Bob’s in Lancaster."
Edie Hettinger, Myrick Lane
"I’m going to say fresh. I think it tastes better. I always forget to order mine from Bob’s. I’m late every year. But, it doesn’t matter this year because I’m not cooking."
