What’s on the minds of the students at Bromfield? The Press asks students at the school to weigh in on a variety of topics.
This month: Which presidential candidate do you support in the 2008 election, and why?
Danny Eisenberg, grade 11
“I support Barack Obama because he has better ideas on where to take the country globally and financially than John McCain. Also, Obama is very intelligent, unlike McCain, who graduated fifth from last in his class, and Sarah Palin, who thinks dinosaurs ruled the earth 4,000 years ago and being near Russia gives her foreign policy experience. I want a president who is smart; if John McCain wins, it only goes to show that only in America do voters shrug off intelligence as being elitist.”
Ryan Robinson, grade six
“I support Barack Obama over John McCain for several reasons. One, if something where to happen to the president I want a vice president who is able to handle being president. Two, I think Barack will lead us to a greener future. Three, even though Barack hasn’t been in the political status as long as John McCain, I think he has the know-how to handle being president.”
Nikko Koetsch, grade 10
“I support Obama because he will take away the tax cuts to the upper class—which may be me, but my family can handle it. Also, he won’t tax healthcare, which is very important, since not enough Americans have health insurance already. In addition, I’m afraid of Sarah Palin.”
Xavier Neang, grade six
“Barack Obama because of the war. I don’t want there to be fighting.”
Sebastien Lipman, grade 10
“Barack Obama because I think he is qualified, he is a good leader, and because I like his progressive ideas on issues. McCain is too much like Bush, and I think America needs to be led in the opposite direction.”

Jacky McGoldrick, grade 11
“I support Barack Obama because he’s better than John McCain. I don’t particularly like either candidate, but the thought of Sarah Palin being a heartbeat away from the presidency is a frightening prospect.”
Olivia Alfano, grade six
“I support McCain because I believe he can really help us. He fought for his country and was captured when he was in the Navy and he really loves our country, from my perspective.”
Emma Sullivan, grade six
“I support Obama because I think it would be good for the country to have a black president. He also has good ideas for the country.”
Carlson Beale, grade 10
“Obama, because I think that McCain will just put us into a deeper depression. He is doing the same thing that got us into a depression but trying to get us out. He also chose Sarah Palin as vice president. She spent $150,000 and $75,000 in one day on clothes.”
Adam Siddiqui, grade six
“I think Barack Obama because he will stop the tax rate and the dog race.”
