I am thankful for the snow that will allow me to see who my four-footed neighbors are, and what they’ve been up to.

Living in Italy all these many years as an ex-pat has been quite an incredible experience; I wish everyone would have such an opportunity. Am so thankful to have been able to share many of these wonderful experiences with so many of my friends who have come to visit. To live and be surrounded in such a rich culture of art, music, incredible history....plus fabulous food, wine, and some of the most gorgeous scenery in all the world is really beyond belief. Sometimes I have to pinch myself and say ‘is this real?’ But real it is, and this is much to be thankful for. In these last several years I’ve had the opportunity to become a “role model” to a group of young American military troops stationed here in Italy. What great fun it has been taking them hiking in the mountains and giving them a history lesson. Thank God my “bod” is still in good shape to do these kind of things!

Every morning, as I walk our dog down a beautiful conservation trail, I get to witness the daily changes that create a year of seasonal changes. I pretend that I am walking to Maine. Indeed, the path ends at a place on Bare Hill Pond where many pines and rocks are visible, but no houses, and we have arrived in Maine. Every morning I am thankful for the Harvard residents who had the forethought to preserve so much of what we all love about our town, and for those who continue to work hard against many challenges to continue Harvard’s tradition of stewardship.

I am grateful that:
- I live in a town where a group of interested people can get together and create something new, whether it’s a new community group or a candlelight vigil for a cause they believe in;
- I live in a state with such a rich history of revolutionary ideas on freedom, democracy, and independence;
- I live in a country where my participation as an ordinary citizen can make an impact on matters of local and national importance;
- I live in a home that is warm, safe, and filled with people I love.
